ALEF Accreditations: CSAT

Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT)

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) falls under the auspices of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA), which is itself a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

HHS’s goal is to protect the health of all Americans, as well as to provide essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. SAMHSA is charged with improving the quality and availability of the country’s substance abuse and mental illness treatment and rehabilitative services. And CSAT supports effective substance abuse treatment and recovery services all across the country.

CSAT’s stated mission is to promote community-based substance abuse treatment and recovery services for individuals, as well as for their families. It’s also tasked with ensuring the nation’s opioid-dispensing Opioid Treatment Providers (OTPs) adhere to strict federal guidelines. To that end, CSAT’s Division of Pharmacologic Therapies oversees both accreditation standards and certification processes for all U.S. OTPs that dispense opioids. It is via these standards and processes that ALEF works with CSAT.

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) promotes community-based substance abuse treatment and recovery services for individuals, as well as their families, and also ensures the nation’s Opioid Treatment Providers adhere to strict, safe and effective federal guidelines. ALEF is proud to join CSAT in advancing addiction treatment for all Americans.

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT):

  • Works to close the gap between available treatment capacity and demand
  • Supports the adaptation and adoption of evidence-based and best practices by community-based treatment programs and services
  • Improves and strengthens substance abuse treatment organizations and systems

CSAT's work supports:
  • States and community-based groups to improve and expand existing substance abuse treatment services under the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant Program
  • SAMHSA's free treatment referral service that connects people with substance abuse services in their community
  • ALEF & CSAT

ALEF is proud to have earned both accreditation and certification from SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). And we at once applaud and welcome the federal oversight, as well as the guidelines, concerning the nation’s Opioid Treatment Providers (OTPs). We believe being an OTP is a privilege, as well as a right, provided, of course, the concern adheres to the highest possible standards and practices. And we’re privileged to take our rightful place in the battle against opioid addiction.

Furthermore, ALEF believes, like CSAT, that no single treatment approach is effective for all those who suffer from opioid use disorder (OUD). And, like CSAT, we fully support the countrywide effort to provide multiple treatment modalities, evaluate treatment effectiveness and use evaluation results to enhance treatment and recovery approaches. We’re especially encouraged by CSAT’s recognition of Medication- Assisted Treatment (MAT), and how it can effectively help control opioid use disorder.

    We’re Here to Help.

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) not only advocates for advanced evidence-based addiction treatment, it also holds the nation’s Opioid Treatment Providers (OTPs) accountable for every aspect of that treatment. ALEF is proud to be held to high account by such an august and forward-looking regulatory agency.
