Lorcet/Lortab

Both Lorcet and Lortab are combination medications that contain an opioid pain reliever (hydrocodone) and a non-opioid pain reliever (acetaminophen). Like other hydrocodone products (i.e. Vicodin), Lorcet and Lortab work in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to moderate to severe pain. Acetaminophen can also reduce a fever.

Lorcet and Lortab come in tablet and liquid form and should only be taken as prescribed.

Like all hydrocodone products, Lorcet and Lortab are highly addictive and may cause respiratory distress and even death when combined with other substances, especially alcohol. And like all hydrocodone products, withdrawal reactions can occur after regular and/or high dose use.

Both Lorcet and Lortab are highly addictive pain medicines.
They are also potentially lethal.

Withdrawal symptoms include restlessness, watering eyes, runny nose, nausea, diarrhea, sweating, muscle aches and sudden changes in behavior. They may also include severe and sudden mental/mood changes, including anxiety, trouble sleeping, thoughts of suicide. To prevent withdrawal reactions, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually.

The risk of addiction from Lorcet and/or Lortab is highest among those with substance use disorder (such as overuse of or addiction to drugs/alcohol). Like other opioids, hydrocodone can induce nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness and/or drowsiness. Though some of these side effects may decrease after prolonged use. However, prolonged use also increases tolerance to the drug’s effect.

Like other opioids, naloxone can reverse the overdose effects of both Lorcet and Lortab. And like all other opioids, Lorcet and Lortab addiction can be effectively addressed with Medication Assisted Treatment.
