Percocet/Percodan Addiction

Both Percocet and Percodan are combination medications used to treat moderate to severe pain. Percocet contains an opioid pain reliever (oxycodone) and a non-opioid pain reliever (acetaminophen). Percodan contains oxycodone and aspirin. Like other oxycodone products (i.e. Endocet, OxyContin), Percocet and Percodan work in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain. Acetaminophen can also reduce a fever. Aspirin can also help reduce swelling.

Percocet and Percodan come in tablet form and should only be taken as prescribed.

Like all hydrocodone products, Percocet and Percodan are highly addictive and may cause respiratory distress and even death when combined with other substances, especially alcohol. And like all hydrocodone products, withdrawal reactions can occur after regular and/or high dose use.

Both Percocet and Percodan are as addicting as OxyContin.
They can also be just as lethal.

The risk of addiction from Percocet and/or Percodan is highest among those with substance use disorder (such as overuse of or addiction to drugs/alcohol). Like other opioids, oxycodone can induce nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness and/or drowsiness. Though some of these side effects may decrease after prolonged use. However, prolonged use also increases tolerance to the drug’s effect.

Like other opioids, naloxone can reverse the overdose effects of both Percocet and Percodan. And like all other opioids, Percocet and Percodan addiction can be effectively addressed with Medication Assisted Treatment.
